About the Art
The artwork incorporated in this website was based on two pieces of artwork by Shakara Montalto.
Shakara is a proud Gunditjmara artist, mother and community health worker. Her style is typically line work, which was predominantly used by her ancestors in the Western District of Victoria. She learnt much of her technique as a young girl from watching her mother do art. Shakara engages the viewer with her modern digital twist on thousand year old traditional artwork.
The footprints represent the journey one must walk to over come challenging times. Focus on one step at a time rather than looking at it as a marathon.
The support circles art is representative of the support we all need. The small circle in the centre represents the individual. The next circle that surrounds them represents family, close friends and their community. Lastly, the third circle represents support services. These 3 elements are important, as they are the fundamental supports needed to guide and nurture our youth in the right direction on their journey. The outer flames represent hope, positivity, leadership, resilience, wisdom, love and care. These are the tools needed to help guide one on their journey and help them stay on their path.
